WHAT IS A REGISTRY?

A registry is a database containing all domain names and their registrant information in the top level domains of the Domain Name System (DNS). This allows 3rd parties to request admin rights over a domain name.

A registry operator, also known as a network information centre (NIC), keeps the domain data and generates a file containing the addresses of the name servers for each domain.
