Problem

You may encounter the following error message

"Code Error 80070005 - Access Denied"


Cause

The server administrator does not have permissions to the local security policy on Microsoft Windows 2008 server.


Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:


Local Security Policies

1. Go to Start , Control Panel then Administrative Tools and Local Security Policy

2. Navigate to Security\Local Policies\Security Option

o DCOM: Machine Access Restrictions - Add Anonymous, Everyone, Interactive, Network, System with full rights options set.

o Network Access: Let everyone permissions apply to anonymous users - Set to Enabled

o Network Access: Sharing security model for local accounts - Set to Classic


DCOM Configuration

1. Click Start and Run

2. Enter DCOMCNFG, click OK. This will open the DCOMCNFG window.

3. Browse down the tree to Console Root, Component Services then Computers and My Computer

4. Right click on "My Computer” then select Properties

5. Choose the "Default Properties" tab

o Enable Distributed COM on this computer - Option is checked

o Default Authentication Level - Set to Connect

o Default Impersonation Level - Set to Identify

6. Choose the "COM Security" tab

7. Click "Access Permissions" Edit Default

o Add "Anonymous", then "Everyone", "Interactive", "Network" and "System" with Local and Remote access permissions set.

8. Click "Launch and Activation Permissions" Edit Default, then click OK

9. Close the DCOMCNFG window.
